The winter storm on Dec. 2 and 3 brought more than a foot of snow, and near freezing temperatures.

Subsequent days brought slightly colder days and nights. Once the clouds moved on, very cold nights and days ensued with highs on this past Monday and Tuesday at around freezing with night-time temperatures dipping down to near zero degrees.

As the week progressed, a gradual warm-up occurred. Saturday’s highs will be in the mid 40s with lows at around the low 20s.

Many hundreds of individuals turned out for this year’s Winterfest that was held at Tall Timbers Park on Saturday, Nov. 26.

Warm fires kept citizens warm along with a choir singing the music. Marshmallows and hot dogs were also served while they awaited Santa Claus.

There were gifts given out to the children. Donations for the Winterfest by local businesses included: Navopache Electric Cooperative for $200, Jerry and Lois Jacka for $200, Frontier Communications donated the hot dogs and buns and Walmart donated $50, the choirs donated their voices and time, Dave Cook donated the firewood and Outback Bob’s Saw Shop donated the wood splitter, volunteers and their leader Nancy Rice contributed. The Heber/Overgaard Fire Department personnel helped with setup and teardown along with Jerry Call, as well as the transport of Santa Claus. John and Diane of John and Diane’s Painting and Pappy provided the pictures.
