Peter Anthony Hull, 25, of Old Port Campbell Road, appeared in Warrnambool Magistrates Court for a contest mention hearing yesterday.
All his charges were adjourned until another hearing on February 8.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Paul Harris alleged that on July 5 this year Mr Hull got angry and kicked and punched his partner continually to the legs.
She was alleged to be covered in bruises and police said he targeted her legs so when she went out of their home or to work the bruises were not seen.
Police alleged that on August 2 the couple were putting together a wood-splitter when Mr Hull became angry because his partner didn’t know how the machine worked.
She went inside to heat up chips to calm him down, but he threw the chips on the floor and when she went to pick them up Mr Hull allegedly started punching her hard to the feet.
When the woman went to the Cobden police station to report the assault, Mr Hull arrived and demanded to see his partner.
He was denied access to her, but later when he talked to her the conversation had to be ended because he got upset. When police later approached Mr Hull he was brandishing an axe and there was a short stand-off before he complied with police.
He then kicked a police sergeant, tried to break free from police custody and had to be restrained.
A police officer suffered a hip injury and could not fulfil his duties for 13 days.
Police were willing to accept guilty pleas to two counts of both unlawful assault and resisting police and one charge of assaulting a police officer.
Mr Hull denied the assaults involving his partner ever took place although police have a statement previously made by the victim about the incidents.
The couple are back together, the court heard.
