TROUT CREEK — An 84-year-old man saved his money to buy a new $2,600 wood splitter last year to help with the backbreaking work of clearing property.
Peggy Renaud said the machinery was stolen last weekend, reducing her father to tears as he faces the prospect of leveling the woodlot by hand with an axe.
He was operating the machine at a Hemlock Road residence on Nov. 5 until about 3:30 p.m. and left the residence for the rest of the day, leaving the machine unsecured at the property, Renaud said.
She said he didn’t notice until the next day that it was missing.
The family is asking for the public’s help to locate the equipment.
Anyone with information is asked to call Near North Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online here.
